Fred

Fred is a biker from downtown Holly. The town has a few bike events each summer. The blessing of the bikes by HIM , Hogs in Ministry, kicks the year off. After the blessing, more than a hundred bikers ride together. I went once to take pics and people were very nice. I got a lot of great shots. Nothing like chrome and leather.

Cheer Me Up!

Yesterday I couldn't find a thing to paint. I tried setting up a still life with an orchid and some vases--bleh. I underpainted a 24x24 canvas with purple. I watered my plants. I laid down on my old yoga mat and did yoga for 60 min. to a podcast my yoga instructor has been awesome enough to put online. AND in the middle of it I started to see this. The gray square is the world outside my window. Nothing beautiful out there to paint right now. Mid-winter, mid-Michigan --bleh.

Bahia Honda Key

This is one of my favorite spots -Bahia Honda Key, Florida. We spend time here when we go to Big Pine Key at Christmas with our camper. This is the next key over. The whole key is a rustic Florida State Park. There's lots of birds, people watching and kite boarders. I painted this from photos in my archives. Wish I could be there right now!

Thanks a Bunch

These were calling to me at Kroger. The idea to paint flowers came from seeing the work of an artist I follow on Instagram. There's so much wonderful art to be seen on that website. The trouble is that it's a time suck. The more people you follow, the longer it takes to look at the days postings. What do people do who follow 500? Anyway, I don't think it matters where you get the idea from as long as you make it yours. ( The idea came from a pot of cyclamen, totally different painting.) Painting this really boosted my spirits.

Nothing

I have nothing today so I am showing 3 pics of my studio.Note the dismal gray and snow outside the porch door. I can't come up with anything to paint. I've been through old pics, my house, took a ride to the recycling container and even checked out morguefile.com. Nothing. I think its part boredom, part the weather (it's 24 degrees out)  part stress. I hope I snap out of it soon.
On a positive side, I've joined Daily Paintworks. It's a site for showing and selling your art. I acquired a Paypal account and connected my gallery to my Judith Fletcher Paintings page on Facebook. AND figured out how to put the link to Paintworks from my blog. Not bad for an old gal. Check it out.

Snow Day

Yesterday I woke to sunshine for the first time in weeks. I hopped in my car early and took pictures in Fenton. This painting took me two days but I am really happy with it. I've never painted a car before. I just learned to draw them in the pastel class I took in fall. Thanks to Alla Dobrovich my favorite instructor ever.
Friday my husband started driving again. I feel like I got my life back. He is doing very well now, getting stronger every day. I hope to be back to daily painting.

Please Help Yourself

Sometimes you take on a subject that you have absolutely no idea how to approach. Like donut toppings. When this happens you have to get to the point where you feel it is the best you can do. Maybe even the best for now. If you keep working on it it will make you crazy.

Think Spring

Every now and then I need a big flower painting. My daughter sent me these for my birthday a month ago and I looked at them so long I said "what the hell why not paint them". These can go either way. Sometimes I get half way through and I hate it so much I abandon it. I have a large collection of big bad flower paintings. But this time I think I was fairly successful. It's 24x21.

Wishing for Summer

I ordered Gamblin Cadmium Green from Blick's on line and maybe it's a bit much but I LOVED the color. I also loved ordering paint, panels and brushes from an Internet catalogue. Usually, I have to drive about 45 miles to the paint store. I've been doing it for years. No more. Aren't computers wonderful.

Go Now

So, This is a great week. My husband came home from the hospital yesterday and he is doing very well. I hope to get back to putting lots of time into work. I want to make January a month of doing small still life studies. I'll focus on simple objects and try to paint faster. I have mentioned how much I HATE still life? But, I think it's time to make friends with it. Like blue. For years, I wouldn't wear blue, decorate with it or paint any thing blue (except sky) Last year I made friends with it and the rest is history.

No. 1, 2016

Hope everyone has a happy and productive year 2016. My husband comes home from the hospital soon. That's a very good start for me
Mid- Michigan winter is very ugly this year. Very hard on a landscape painter. I have to resort to the dreaded still life for subject matter. They say you learn a lot about painting from still life. I'm going to learn how to stick to painting when I am uninspired.
